Yes you can control lots in your separation!
Good question! A lot more than you imagine. Want to take back control?
I see people in my divorce law practice at all different stages of separation. Everyone needs different things at different times. Everyone you meet, as well, has a nightmare experience or their heartfelt advice to tell you what you need to do to ‘beat’ the other person, and survive this experience.
I want you to thrive, not just survive! It is up to you to discover the answer.
There is no textbook. But after 20 years of practicing family law, I would like to introduce a different approach to separation. You hold the key – I will show you some of the doors to unlock with that key to move forward stronger, and in control of your future.

Even though you are separating and feel you can’t get along, no one can make better solutions for your family than you! Any judge will tell you this. Mediation and Collaborative Family Law Resolution Services helps YOU look past the disappointments with your partner, and will support you together to make the decisions your family best needs to live separately. This takes special skills that I can provide for you.
Why Mediation or Collaborative Family Law?
Going through a separation is never pleasant, and it is normal to just ‘want it over’ – fast and cheap! While those are great goals, don’t sacrifice the correct, long-lasting outcome to your separation. A quick, cheap resolution could end up being a really expensive outcome down the road. Settle in haste, repent at leisure…! A good resolution lawyer will do some ‘reality-checking’ with you, to make sure that you do things right the first time. Contact Sue by email at suepaterson@spsfamilylaw.com to see if collaborative family law or mediation are the correct processes to achieve the right resolution for you and your family .
I would be pleased to provide excellent mediation or collaborative law services to you and your separating spouse. During a separation, people are vulnerable, and often not thinking clearly. They ‘just want it over now’, and can’t see beyond tomorrow. They let their disappointment with each other and themselves override their best interests. I will challenge you to see ‘The Big Picture’ – before you head down the wrong road for yourself and your children. My approach to dispute resolution is founded upon over 17 years of family law experience both litigating, for parents and for children, and from helping people to negotiate resolutions successfully. What do I offer that is different than other family law lawyers? I listen to my clients, and challenge them to focus on what is best for them and their children, practically, financially and emotionally. I don’t tell people what to do, but give realistic advice about what is likely to happen if they take their family’s circumstances to court, or negotiate a resolution that is ‘just good enough’ for today. I have invested my time and education into learning how to help all kinds of people to communicate and negotiate effectively, so their results will actually let them accomplish their future goals.
